How Much Do TikTok Ads Cost in 2026? CPM, CPC and Minimum Budget

Short answer

TikTok ads have no fixed price: impressions are priced in an auction, so you set the budget and the auction sets the cost. As of September 2026, TikTok requires more than $50 at campaign level and more than $20 per day at ad group level. For purchase campaigns, TikTok recommends a daily budget of at least 10 times your target cost per acquisition.

Key takeaways

  • Official minimums (September 2026): campaign budget above $50, ad group daily budget above $20.
  • The minimum only gets you live. For purchase goals TikTok suggests a daily budget of 10x your CPA, or at least $200.
  • The learning phase usually settles after about 25 results or 7 days, so hold changes until then.
  • One e-commerce benchmark puts average TikTok CPM at $4.80, CTR at 0.61% and conversion rate at 1.92%.
  • Once learning ends, raise budgets by no more than 30% at a time and wait at least two days between changes.

How much do TikTok ads cost?

TikTok ads cost whatever you choose to spend. There is no rate card: each impression is priced in an auction between advertisers who want to reach the same person, and your budget and bid strategy decide how much of that inventory you can buy.

That is why two stores selling similar products can pay very different prices for the same audience. What you actually pay depends mostly on four things:

  • Campaign objective: reach and video view goals usually buy cheaper impressions. Optimizing for purchases (the Complete Payment event) costs more per impression, because the system hunts for people who are likely to buy.
  • Audience and competition: narrow targeting and crowded categories such as beauty, fashion and finance push prices up.
  • Creative quality: videos that hold attention and earn engagement do better in the auction. A weak video has to be paid for more to get the same delivery.
  • Season: competition climbs around Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the holiday period, and CPMs usually follow.

What is the minimum budget for TikTok ads?

According to the TikTok Ads Manager help center, a campaign budget (daily or lifetime) must exceed $50, and an ad group daily budget must exceed $20. For an ad group lifetime budget, the minimum is the number of scheduled days multiplied by the $20 daily minimum.

LevelDaily budgetLifetime budget
CampaignMore than $50More than $50
Ad groupMore than $20$20 × total days (a 31-day flight = $620)

A few details that trip people up:

  • You cannot switch between daily and lifetime budgets once a campaign or ad group is live. If you picked the wrong type, you have to build a new one.
  • The lifetime minimum counts every scheduled day, including days that have already passed.
  • The campaign budget should not be lower than the ad group budget, or delivery can suffer.
  • The help center lists these minimums in US dollars only. If your account runs in another currency, check the minimum Ads Manager accepts when you enter the budget.

How much should you spend per day on TikTok ads?

For purchase campaigns, plan a daily budget of at least 10 times your target cost per acquisition (CPA). TikTok's own budget tips recommend 10x the current CPA, or at least $200, for deep conversions like add to cart and purchase.

For shallow conversions such as page views, the same page recommends 50x the cost per result, or at least $100. The reason behind both rules is the learning phase: TikTok says volatility typically starts to decline after about 25 results or 7 days. A budget that cannot buy roughly 25 conversions a week leaves the ad group stuck in learning.

  1. Set a target CPA Work out the most you can pay in ads per order from your gross margin, not from your revenue.
  2. Multiply by 10 That is TikTok's recommended daily budget per ad group for purchase optimization.
  3. Check the learning floor 25 results × target CPA ÷ 7 days gives the daily spend needed to exit learning in a week.
  4. Pick your level Start between the learning floor and the 10x figure. If you cannot afford the floor, optimize for a shallower event first.

Worked example in USD

Take a store with an $80 average order value and a 45% gross margin. Each order leaves $36 of gross profit, and the owner wants to keep at least $11 of it, so the target CPA is $25.

  • 10x rule: $25 × 10 = $250 per day
  • Learning floor: 25 × $25 = $625 per week, or about $89 per day

So $250 a day is the comfortable level TikTok recommends, while around $89 a day is the least that gives the ad group a fair shot at leaving learning within a week. Below that, optimize for add to cart until you have data. To set the target CPA properly, run your numbers through our break-even ROAS calculator.

Is $20 a day enough for TikTok ads?

Only if your target CPA is very low. Using the learning floor formula, $20 a day buys about 25 conversions a week only when each conversion costs around $5.60 or less. That works for cheap, shallow events like landing page views or add to cart, but rarely for purchases. With $20 a day, treat the first weeks as creative testing, not as a sales test.

What is the average CPM and CPC on TikTok?

A widely cited e-commerce benchmark from Lebesgue, updated in September 2026, puts average TikTok CPM at $4.80 for campaigns optimized for Complete Payment. Your own numbers will differ by country, category and season, so treat benchmarks as a sanity check.

$4.80Average CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions)
0.61%Average click-through rate
1.92%Average conversion rate

You can derive CPC and CPA from those three figures. These are our calculations, not numbers published by the source:

  • CPC = CPM ÷ (1,000 × CTR) = $4.80 ÷ 6.1 ≈ $0.79
  • CPA = CPC ÷ conversion rate = $0.79 ÷ 0.0192 ≈ $41

The same formulas work on your own account. Say your CPM is $9 and your CTR is 0.8%: your CPC is $9 ÷ 8 = $1.13. With a 1.5% conversion rate, each order costs $1.13 ÷ 0.015 ≈ $75 in ad spend. Breaking cost down this way shows where the chain snaps: a high CPM points to audience or competition, a low CTR points to the creative, and a low conversion rate points to the landing page, the offer or the price.

Which bid strategy keeps TikTok ad costs down?

New accounts should usually start with Maximum Results to collect data quickly, then move to Target Cost per Result once they know their CPA. The first spends the full budget; the second protects your margin but may under-spend.

Maximum Results

  • Spends the whole budget to get as many results as possible.
  • Does not aim for a specific CPA, so expect daily swings.
  • TikTok's advice: daily budget of 10x your average daily CPA from the past 7 days.
  • Best for new accounts, new products and creative tests.

Target Cost per Result

  • Aims to keep average cost per result at or below your target.
  • If the bid is too low, the budget may not spend.
  • TikTok's advice: budget of at least 10x the CPA bid; if spend stalls, raise the bid by at least 20%.
  • Best for accounts with a known, profitable CPA.

On billing, most conversion campaigns are charged per impression through oCPM (optimized cost per 1,000 impressions). You pay for impressions, but the system chooses which impressions to buy based on your goal. That is why a campaign should be judged on CPA and ROAS rather than on CPC.

TikTok Shop sellers have another option: GMV Max, an automated campaign type for Shop products and LIVE sessions. You choose an ROI target and TikTok spends automatically within that target's range, so the key input is your margin rather than a daily bid. If you are not sure whether Shop is open in your market, see our TikTok Shop availability guide.

When should you increase your TikTok ad budget?

Wait until the ad group has left the learning phase and is hitting your CPA. Then raise the budget by no more than 30% at a time and leave at least two days between changes.

TikTok's help pages are not perfectly aligned here. The budget article recommends at most 40% per adjustment during learning and 30% after it. The budget tips page says to stay within 50% of the previous budget after learning, and the bidding page suggests steps of at least 20% for Maximum Results. In practice, steps of 20–30% are a safe middle ground. Big jumps can push the ad group back into learning and keep your CPA high for days.

  • The ad group has run for at least 7 days and collected about 25 results.
  • CPA over the last 3 days is at or below target.
  • The daily budget is fully spent every day, so you are budget-limited.
  • At least two days have passed since the last change.
  • The increase is 30% or less. For more volume, add a second ad group with fresh creatives.

How can you lower your TikTok ad costs?

Creative is the biggest lever. Vertical videos that grab attention in the first seconds and look native to TikTok earn more clicks for the same budget and bring CPA down. Clean measurement and patience come next.

  • Run 3–5 different videos per ad group and replace low-CTR ones after 3–4 days.
  • Send purchases through both the TikTok Pixel and the Events API. Missing events teach the algorithm to find the wrong people.
  • Do not over-narrow targeting. Broad audiences usually get cheaper CPMs for e-commerce.
  • Check mobile page speed. A small lift in conversion rate cuts CPA directly.
  • Tag every ad URL with UTM parameters so GA4 and your store can separate TikTok traffic. Our UTM builder speeds this up.

TikTok, Meta and Google each report their own conversions, and the totals rarely match the orders in your store. To see spend next to real sales for every channel, Marpany's ad performance view brings the platform data into one table.

Your first 30 days: a TikTok budget plan

Follow this order before and after launch:

  1. Calculate your target CPA from gross margin.
  2. Install the Pixel and Events API, then confirm with a test purchase.
  3. Launch one campaign with one ad group and 3–5 videos. Set the daily budget between the learning floor and 10x your target CPA.
  4. Leave it alone for 7 days, then review CPM, CTR and conversion rate separately.
  5. If it is profitable, raise the budget by up to 30% every two days. If not, change the creative or landing page before touching the budget.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to advertise on TikTok?

There is no fixed price because impressions are sold in an auction. The official minimum is more than $50 per campaign and more than $20 per day per ad group. For purchase campaigns, TikTok recommends a daily budget of about 10 times your target CPA, or at least $200.

Is $20 a day enough for TikTok ads?

It is enough to launch an ad group, but usually not enough to optimize for purchases. To collect about 25 conversions a week on $20 a day, each conversion would need to cost around $5.60 or less. Use a small budget for creative testing or shallow events like add to cart.

How much does TikTok charge per 1,000 views?

TikTok usually charges per 1,000 impressions (CPM), not per view. One September 2026 e-commerce benchmark puts average CPM at $4.80 for purchase-optimized campaigns. Your CPM will vary with country, category, targeting and season.

Are TikTok ads cheaper than Facebook ads?

Impressions often are: one benchmark estimates TikTok CPM at about 30% below comparable Facebook ads. However, click-through and conversion rates can also be lower, so the cost per sale is not always cheaper. Compare both channels on CPA and ROAS over the same period.

How long does the TikTok learning phase last?

TikTok says volatility typically starts to decline after about 25 results or 7 days. Pausing the ad group or making large edits to budget, bid or targeting during that time can restart learning. If your budget cannot deliver around 25 results a week, start with a shallower conversion event.

How Much Do Instagram Ads Cost in 2026? CPM, CPC and Daily Budget

Instagram ads have no fixed price. Meta prices every impression in an auction based on your bid, the estimated action rate and ad quality, so the real question is how much you can afford per result. A reliable rule: set your daily budget at about 7 times your target cost per result, so the ad set can reach roughly 50 optimization events a week and exit the learning phase.
